Future of ourWorld?

Since Flash will be completely shutting down by the end of 2020, what does that mean for the future of ourWorld? Will it still be playable via the web? I am unsure of where to ask this question so I thought I would try posting it here. I've tried looking around but couldn't find a thread regarding this topic but it has always been on my mind. (:

So if they are ending Zoes and Resident's memberships, will listing items in the marketplace and Zoe's auctions be available for tourists?

I don't think we'll open that up for tourists, or change how things are accessed. But memberships aren't really going away, you just can't spend money anymore. You can still buy passes, and there are still millions of unspent Gems that players can use to buy them. Also, we're looking at ways to give out Gems, but haven't decided on anything yet. Maybe something to replace FB codes, I'm not sure.

Hmm, but didn’t Ooie say that they will soon be announcing a means to extend memberships indefinitely? She said this in one of the screenshots above. What do you think this will entail? I was under the impression that she meant there will be a way of getting passes without using gems, it will be available for tourists, or that there will be a code for it like playtest (just my thoughts though, not sure what will happen). She also mentioned that there are no plans for a gem code alternative (hoping that this isn’t the case though).

If everything is left as is, it will be pretty difficult to obtain passes every month if we won’t be able to earn gems. Soon enough, those of us buying passes will be out of gems, and it will become impossible to get passes (even through trading, since there can only be so many passes circulating until they are all used up. With the limited resources, there will already be far fewer listings). Ooie has also said that they are not going to be maintaining the game or updating anything once the client is out, it’s meant to be a legacy platform or something along those lines.

Will people with more than one account still be able to keep them all? And if so will there be a way to have more than one account open at the same time, or would I have to transfer items over beforehand?

what is going on here? why do none of the ourWorld staff seem to know whats going on as they all have vastly different stories of whats happening with OW. also, even if something replaces facebook codes, how would people even afford the resident and zoes passes? you guys only give 20 gems out every 1-2 weeks inconsistently.

I'd definitely listen to what Ooie has to say before me, since she's been doing most of the testing. But I think - strong emphasis on think - that existing memberships will probably be extended indefinitely, but if you're a Tourist the only way to get membership will be from a pass. Like I said, though, Ooie has the most up-to-date information, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Thanks Czarcasm! If that's the case, it's going to be rough for those of us who are tourists but want to obtain a membership in the future. If we need to be a member by a certain date for the extension to apply, when do you think this would be? I just want to be prepared for when this does happen, and I'm not sure when I should use my next pass after the current one expires. I'm really hoping it won't be just for paying memberships though...

I would like to ask a similar question to Insignificant - if those of us who are currently tourists want to have an indefinitely extended membership, when should we get one by? Will in-game passes still have their usual time limits? I will buy a paid membership if that's what's necessary to gain an indefinite one for the download client - is that even still possible? I agree with earlier commenters that I'd be really disappointed if the in-game passes still have the same time limit & get doomed to all get used up once everyone's finite gems are spent on them

My ultimate question to all of this is, if OurWorld wasn't generating enough currency for FlowPlay to have any desire to keep updating it or working with it, why weren't options explored to maybe try and help drive sales? Yes, I am certain the 'black market' had a major impact on whether or not OW made sales, but why weren't more extensive efforts made to maybe try and eliminate the need for it to begin with? Did the company not reach out to PA to have the entire store taken down? Did they not consider maybe making something similar to the BM into the game since Zoe's did pretty poorly? Yes, the mystery boxes probably bought in a lot of money too, but there were surely loopholes with those as well. It's just kind of sad and frustrating to see all hope be given up on a game that has bought many of us great memories, joy, and happiness for so long. The game has so much more potential to it than what people seem to believe. Sure, I am thankful we're at least being given something like a legacy server, but how long is that going to last because there will ultimately need to be funds to help keep that running, too, though. Right?

Even if they got in contact with PA and successfuly shut down the ourWorld section, people would still have other ways to buy&sell items, such as PayPal and w/e that other money transfering site is called, I think it's something that starts with a V?

To answer my own question concerning having more than one account open at the same time. The answer is no. Ooie confirmed this and now i'm wondering if this will be the same on PT.
